Fishing the Ms Louise Tug Reef – Destin, FL

Fishing the Ms Louise Tug Reef – Destin, FL I paddled over from the east side Henderson Beach State Park in my Jackson Big Tuna. We set out early AM and the weather was calm. The water here is very clear. We saw dolphins, a turtle and tons of fish. We started trolling the perimeter of the Ms Louise trolling live cigar minnows hoping to pickup a king or mahi. Our sabiki caught bait quickly got destroyed and we had no more bait. Sabiki’d the reef, nothing. There was a large school of bait fish on the reef and they were more worried about the constant bombardment by the Amberjacks, then they were our sabiki rigs. And the amberjacks were ignoring everything we threw at them and focused on the bait. We’d get a chaser here and there but they’d always turn away. This reef was covered in fish. A little time goes by and the Dive Company Emerald Coast Scuba joined us on the reef. We took one side of the tug and the divers took the other side near the anchor line. Captain Tom Schmitz saw we were having trouble hooking up with the thousands of feeding amberjacks circling below… Whipped out a rod and started hooking up on every cast. He ended up sharing a lure with us and we finally started catching fish. Captain Tom Rocks! Thank you Emerald Coast Scuba! Emerald Coast Scuba – http://www.divedestin.com/
